GBVS is headed back to school! This page provides information about the Newport Jazz Age Weekend overnight lodging. There will soon be a link posted above leading to the ticket registration page when it is open. For updates, watch the GBVS Facebook Page or join our email list by emailing “gbvintagesociety@gmail.com”.
This year’s event will be take place at three different Estates owned by Salve Regina: Founders Hall, Ochre Lodge, and Carolyn House. These Gilded Age Mansions have been tastefully converted into student dormitories. They retain much of their historic originality and make for a unique glimpse into life of the time. Friday night’s activities will take place at Ochre Lodge with an included cocktail reception. On Saturday, we visit Beaucourt Mansion, and then head back to Founders Hall. The estate has a large wrap-around porch and shaded lawn which will be perfect for our “Homecoming Lawn Party Picnic”. There will be classes, games, and dancing on the porch to the Stevedore Stompers! There’s then an optional dinner at the Ocean Cliff Safari Room and we come back after to Founders for the included Ice Cream Social Party! The third estate, Carolyn House, is the smallest and will not be used for any events. If you are a light sleeper, feel free to request this option.
All together, the estates only hold up to 70 guests max, so don’t delay in signing up. This is not only a special way to experience history, but a very affordable stay in Newport! These may be “dorm rooms”, but Salve Regina is an upscale school and all rooms are hotel quality with comfortable, clean beds. There are linens, pillows, soap, and towels provided. Please bring your own shampoo, hair dryer, and iron. Most of the rooms this year have a private hall bath. These are a (lockable) individual bathroom, you just need to enter the hallway to access it. Click on the three dorm photos below to see a video with more info.
Good news, registration has come down in price since our last Newport event! On the ticket website is a breakdown for stay in a single, double, or triple/quad room. Most people will take the double option, but the price is discounted if you can get 3 or 4 friends together for the “triple/quad” option. Much like an ocean cruise, pricing is per person. Similarly, there is a more expensive rate for a single room registration. This is because one person is taking up the space for two (GBVS also pays an extra fee for single rooms). Free parking is provided at the estate as well as internet access. Feel free to bring as many vintage items as you like to dress up the room. This year’s housing is not ADA compliant as there is no elevator, however if you have special needs I can put you on a first floor, so please let me know at booking.
When registering, please type in the comments section the first/last names of the person(s) you want to room with. If you are without a roommate, and don’t mind sharing with someone you don’t know, we can assign you to a double or triple room to get the lower room rate. Send an email and we’ll let you know who we can match you up with. All booking fees are per-person. The Double Room pricing is $290/pp is for the entire weekend (3 days/2 nights). Triple/Quad is $240/pp, and Single Rooms are $370/pp.
Check in starts 6pm on Friday night in Ochre Lodge. Check out is 10am on Sunday morning. There are no meals included aside from breakfast. The Belcourt Mansion Tour will cost $20 pp and the Rose Island Cruise will cost $50 each. These fees are additional and can be paid via Venmo, check, PayPal, etc. We will sending instructions about this in an email once you register for a room.
Saturday and Sunday morning include a “continental” breakfast. We will be providing a selection of yogurts, fruit, breads, and snacks. Breakfast is not vegan, glucose free, etc, so read the packaging. We will also provide coffee, OJ, milk, and assorted teas. There is a shared refrigerator and full kitchen in each building. You are welcome to bring whatever food you like for the picnics, etc. You can even cook if you like, but bring all utensils/pans as there are no guarantees to what is there. In our welcome email, you will also be getting info about signing up for Saturday’s dinner at the Safari Room. Alcohol is allowed in the rooms, but please be responsible and use your best judgement.
Event registration is for guests 21 years and older. All sales are subject to a 20% cancellation fee up to 3 weeks before the event. After that period we can work with you to try to find a replacement guest, but tickets at that point are only be 50% refundable. Cancellations within 1 week of the event are non-refundable. You are welcome to organize with another potential guest if you can only stay Friday night and they want your room for Saturday night, just email us. However, only the purchased amount of guests can stay in one room (one person per bed).
