Here’s a preview of the GBVS Winter Formal! We have secured an outstanding new venue this year, the Lyman Estate of Waltham, MA! This is an exquisite home built in 1793 that retains most of it’s original details. The Lyman family lived in the estate for over 150 years. The Winter Formal will return to the Roaring 20’s for a 90th anniversary celebrating all things 1927!
Entertainment and activities include: …The 11-piece High Society Orchestra, an aeronautical tribute to the Lindbergh transatlantic flight, as well as a Lindy Hop dance contest, included dance lessons, hors d’oeuvres, full bar, signature cocktail, photo booth, free parking, and more!
This Sunday 10/15 is the Boston Tweed Group’s annual fall Tweed Ride. Join us as we ride along the Charles River in our finest fall fashion! Pack your picnic as there will be a place to stop along the ride. Start time is 11am and the ride/picnic generally lasts a couple hours. Click HERE for full info and meetup location. The event will end at Charlie’s Kitchen for drinks and food after. See you there!
Initial details have just been released for this year’s Art Deco Weekend! There is a lot of excitement building this year and for good reason! Salve Regina has added a second estate that we can stay in! You can stay in the Fairlawn Estate or try out Wallace Hall just across the way. Plus this year we have secured an amazing band, “Drew Nugent and the Midnight Society” from Philadelphia! And for those staying the whole weekend, Friday night we are hosting the first-ever GBVS murder mystery party inside the mansion! Do not miss this haunting evening!!!

The Winter Formal is back January 8th! This 1940’s formal event will bring us the entire 18-piece Dan Gabel and the Abletones Band to the exquisite Carrie Nation Restaurant! Ticket price includes one alcoholic beverage as well as tasty hors d’oeuvres! Plus, there will be a free dance lesson, performances, and a special contest with prizes by Salmagundi Hats! Activities for the Newport Art Deco Weekend are firmed up and you will not want to miss this exciting event! The overnight package has sold out, but there are still tickets for the Saturday “day tickets” which allow you to attend on Friday night and Sunday as well. You can make your own exciting weekend experience by booking a room at one of the many beautiful Inns and B&B’s in the area!
For April’s event we will be back at the Carrie Nation Restaurant and Cocktail Lounge. This time we turn to the 1940’s to enjoy dinner, dancing and then a classic Fred Astaire and Rita Hayworth film!
GBVS will once again take over the entire restaurant for a night of fun! Dinner at 6pm, a dancing/cocktail break at 7pm, and the complimentary film at 8pm. Preceeding the movie will be a period newsreel, both of which are on original 16mm film! Price is only $45 and includes a three course meal! More info can be found by clicking here.

For its next big event, the Greater Boston Vintage Society will take you back to the excitement following the end of WWII! Come celebrate this greatest generation and get a glimpse of what it would have felt like for the war to finally be over! This festival of 1940’s history will feature two main parts:
Outdoor, 5:30pm–Antique autos both WWII military and civilian will gather outside the Bishop Mackenzie center. Spaced in between will be displays of WWII history/equipment, local funding organizations for veterans, living historians in costume, vendors, and more! At 7pm a beginner swing dance lesson will teach you all you need to get a start in the dance craze of the period.
Indoor, 8pm–Then head inside for the amazing Dan Gabel and the Abletones Authentic Big Band featuring vocalist Elise Roth! This extremely talented band will have you swinging your heart out in no time! Along with the music there will be performances, a high output Lindy Hop contest with prizes, and a genuine 1940’s Army projector playing wartime newsreel films!
Get your tickets in advance! At only $25, this all-ages show is going to sell out fast! Tickets will be $35 at the door if there are any left. Special bonus: Members of GBVS who are in military service or Veterans get in for FREE!!! (must bring proof of service) Free appetizers and snacks will be available for the outdoor portion of the event! Snacks and drinks will be sold inside. There’s plenty of parking, and the hall is right on the T (Green Line-Newton Centre)! See you in 1945!

On behalf of the Greater Boston Vintage Society I would like to thank everyone who made the Roaring Twenties Lawn Party such a success this year! Thank you to The Trustees of Reservations, Boston Swing Central, the different food and beverage providers, the performance acts, and so many more! And biggest thanks to all the attendees! Your energy and “Dandyness” have definitely grown by leaps and bounds!
