Set sail for the Newport Jazz Age Weekend!

We have many great activities planned for you at Newport this year! Whether you are attending the Weekend or just signed up for the Saturday Day Ticket feel free to join us on Sunday the 18th as we take a cruise of the harbor on board the Adirondack II. This 80 ft, turn-of-the-century style schooner owned by Newport Classic Cruises will take us on a 90-minute “Mimosa Sail” at 11am. If you want to sign up, book your reservation at this LINK and then send a quick email with your name(s) to gbvintagesociety@gmail.com so we know who to look out for. We will meet at the dock no later than 10:45am.

Movie Night at the GBVS HQ! Friday, May 19th

We welcome you join us for a vintage movie night at the GBVS headquarters of Groveland, Mass. Starting at 6:30pm we will be serving cocktails/drinks and snacks. Socialize at the J+J Cafe or peruse the vintage clothing for sale upstairs in the gallery. Then at sundown (8pm) we will take in the rare 1942 film, “Pittsburg” staring Marlene Dietrich, John Wayne, and Randolf Scott. This original 16mm projector film will be preceded by a newsreel or short.

The movie will be shown upstairs in the barn. Folding chairs provided or bring your own. To sign up send an email to gbvintagesociety@gmail.com. A $10-20 donation is suggested to cover costs. Directions will be sent via email. You MUST RSVP to attend and please follow parking instructions. See you Friday!

Casino Royale! April 1st at the Larz Anderson Museum

Don’t miss out on this spectacular night of espionage at the Larz Anderson Museum. Enjoy, dancing, gambling for prizes, vendors, hors d’oeuvres and a night to remember at this perfect venue. Being the “swinging sixties” we will have a swing dance lesson at the beginning of the night and live music from the Wolverine Jazz Band. Newport is Back! June 16-18th 2023

Newport is back!!! ….with one small change. We are now the “Newport Jazz Age Weekend“. Same great event, just a more appropriate name! This year we have a special lineup and a great theme. Celebrate Juneteenth weekend with us as we pay tribute to “The History and Influence of Black American Culture in Jazz and Swing”. All weekend we will have talks and dance classes lead by NYC instructor Odysseus Bailer!

Between classes on Saturday we will have our traditional lawn party picnic and activities. Then get ready for a really special Black-Tie Ball headlined by “Taryn Newborne and the Real Deal”!!! This band knows how to play for dancers and will be perfect for enjoying what you learned in class.

Weekend Registration is now open and Day Tickets will go on sale in February. Don’t miss out!

Winter Formal Italiano! — December 10th

Ciao! The Winter Formal returns to the 1950’s with strong Italian flavor. To spice things up this year we’re going with a full dinner format. GBVS is partnering with Maria’s Family Restaurant of Haverhill for an evening of delizioso entrées from the “old country”. Maria’s restaurant has the perfect vibe for the era and a great function hall for dinner and dancing. Musical accompaniment will be provided by talented pianist Benjamin Peabody. He’ll play some songs for dancing as well as your favorite holiday hits. Feel free to make requests. While your there take a picture by the grand piano and Christmas tree!

Winter Wonderland at Mountain View Grand!

A group of GBVS members are getting together the weekend of March 5/6th to stay at the historic Mountain View Grand in Whitefield, NH. We welcome you to join us in some vintage revelry. We will meet at 1pm Saturday for vintage style cross-country skiing and then head inside for dinner and evening activities. There are ski rentals and trails on-site. Here’s a preview of the GBVS Winter Formal! We have secured an outstanding new venue this year, the Lyman Estate of Waltham, MA! This is an exquisite home built in 1793 that retains most of it’s original details. The Lyman family lived in the estate for over 150 years. The Winter Formal will return to the Roaring 20’s for a 90th anniversary celebrating all things 1927!

Entertainment and activities include: …The 11-piece High Society Orchestra, an aeronautical tribute to the Lindbergh transatlantic flight, as well as a Lindy Hop dance contest, included dance lessons, hors d’oeuvres, full bar, signature cocktail, photo booth, free parking, and more!

Boston Tweed Ride — Sunday 10/15/17

This Sunday 10/15 is the Boston Tweed Group’s annual fall Tweed Ride.  Join us as we ride along the Charles River in our finest fall fashion!  Pack your picnic as there will be a place to stop along the ride.  Start time is 11am and the ride/picnic generally lasts a couple hours.  Click HERE for full info and meetup location.  The event will end at Charlie’s Kitchen for drinks and food after.  See you there!Tweed
