June 24th – 26th 2022!
Due to Covid Newport has been pushed back to June 24-26th 2022. However, we guarantee this event will return for it’s best year ever! For those who have already purchased tickets, they are valid for the rescheduled event at the price you originally paid.
This year’s theme: “Classic Cinema of the Art Deco Period”
The Greater Boston Vintage Society invites you to celebrate the 1920’s – 40’s with its fourth annual “Newport Art Deco Weekend”! This event will take place at two 19th century estates owned by Salve Regina University. The Fairlawn Estate (aka Pell Center/Young Building) is our main event space/housing option. This beautiful estate was built in the 1850’s and used as a private home for most of its life until being converted for school and college use. With grand ballrooms and a vast lawn right on Bellevue Ave, it is the perfect place to experience life in the period. The estate is currently used to host conferences and a portion of it is a student dormitory. It is also home to the university’s Pell Center for International Relations and Public Policy.
We also have access to the nearby “Wallace Hall”. This hall was once an estate carriage house and then a gardener’s cottage. It is now also a dormitory for Salve Regina. It is a one-block walk from the activities at the Fairlawn Estate, but has intriguing features of it’s own and it is a quieter option for your stay. Rooms will be booked in Fairlawn first and then Wallace unless requested otherwise.
The weekend will consist of many period themed activities and classes. The theme of this year’s event will be “Classic Cinema of the Art Deco Age”! This theme will be part of our activities and class lectures throughout the weekend. Starting Friday night enjoy a pot-luck dinner followed by an original 1930’s feature film shown on an original theater quality period projector! On Saturday there are classes in history, culture and dance of the Art Deco age. Plus the grounds of the estate make a stunning setting for the lawn party picnic lunch. Classes in period dance instruction will be from New York City’s Roddy Caravella and Gretchen Fenston. Saturday’s nighttime entertainment the Black-Tie Ball will be headlined bu Micael Arenella and the Dreamland Orchestra Quintet. This champion of NYC music will not disappoint! Alcoholic drinks will be for sale at affordable pricing. Sunday guests are invited to take a stroll around town and visit the mansions.
There are two main ticket options. For those wanting the most complete experience, a limited number rooms are available to stay for the entire weekend. See the Weekend Tickets link. These rooms are furnished dormitory style, but include linens and normal hotel amenities featuring a private bath. Price of this package is $295 per person for both nights which includes continental breakfast each day and all activities through Sunday afternoon. This is an affordable alternative to booking a hotel in Newport and it’s the only place where you can spend your entire weekend living in the art deco period! Weekend Tickets are currently on sale!
The second ticket option is for guests attending for just the day/evening on Saturday. See Day Tickets link. This price is $90 and includes all activities Saturday including the Black Tie Ball. This year there will also be a second option to attend just the dance only. These ticket options will go on sale starting in March. Check back for further info.
We will have an amazing lineup of professional teachers and classes in store for the Saturday workshops! Click on the Schedule link above for more info.
