We’re Back!!! GBVS Croquet Tournament 6/13!

Well who’s up for getting out of the house??!!! GBVS is very excited to announce our first public event since March 2020! The Lars Anderson Museum of Brookline is partnering with us to hold the first official GBVS Croquet Tournament on their spectacular grounds. This event will feature the tournament as well as a lunchtime picnic lawn party and hopefully some vintage autos! This will be a safe social-distanced event. You can arrive Sunday June 13th starting 10:30am to setup your blanket, chairs, etc. The first round of games will start at 11am–details to follow. Included with entry to the tournament will be a complimentary visit to the museum you can use any time during the day. At 2pm winners will be announced and prizes awarded! Anything new at GBVS……?

Well, 2020 was definitely a wash. I hope everyone has been finding vintage activities at home to keep busy. It hasn’t been the same without spending time with all our GBVS friends. Here’s hoping that 2021 brings some “old normal” back to our lives!

At present we are planning for next year’s Newport Art Deco Weekend., however it has been postponed (again!) to 2022. The new dates are June 24th – 26th 2022 and Day and Weekend tickets are on sale now. You can learn further about it at the NADW Website. Until then, we’re looking forward to seeing you at other events this summer!

WWII Victory Dance! March 7th 2020

83494632_10221926594420125_6333330556746465280_nCome one come all to the Shirley, MA War Memorial Building to support the Fort Devens Museum with a WWII style bond rally!  GBVS is proud to help this museum continue to grow and it will be a great night to dig out your favorite 1940’s fashions.  Admission is only $30 regular / $25 for military and includes live music, dancing, hors d’oeuvres, cash bar, and more!  Big Band  hits of the decade will be provided by the Greenlight Jazz Orchestra.  Click the poster at left for tickets.  You can also view the Facebook event page HERE.  See you at the front!

 

Newport Art Deco Weekend May 29-31, 2020!

The Dates have been released for this year’s Newport, May 29th – 31st!  We are fortunate to be able to move the event off of Memorial Day weekend this year which should make it much easier to attend.  Tickets for the weekend package will go on sale starting January 9th.NP 19

This is the favorite event of GBVS members and we have a great theme this year to boot!  The weekend will send tribute to classic cinema of the Art Deco age.  Starting Friday night you will be treated to a special treat, a real live theater showing of a 1930’s film shown on a period correct 16mm projector!  Then Saturday classes start with the return of famous NYC dance instructors Roddy and Gretchen plus themed activities and classes.  The Black-Tie Ball will certainly be a red-carpet affair fitting of all the plans we have in store!  Click the event page above for more info.

Winter Formal: Great Gatsby New Year’s Eve Ball!

Here is the official announcement for this year’s Winter Formal! For the first time in GBVS history we will take on the “night of all nights” New Year’s Eve!  This is going to be expensive event to run but we only get one chance to welcome in the new Roaring Twenties decade!  And with a venue such as the historic Stevens Estate and the full 11-piece “High Society Orchestra” we just can’t go wrong! Tickets will officially go on sale Friday, August 16th at this LINK.  Check back to the website or Facebook page/group for a link with full event information.  This will be THE vintage event not to miss!  In the works are free dance lessons/performances, plentiful hors d’oeuvres, specialty cocktails, an included champagne toast, vendors, and much more!

WWII Weekend at the Deerfield Fairgrounds!

concert poster Have you heard?  WWII Weekend is coming up July 20th and 21st at the Deerfield Fairgrounds in NH!  See many exciting WWII vehicles, reenactor encampments, displays, and battles. Plus GBVS is bringing a full 1940’s USO show to the event with 2 live bands: Dan Gabel and the Abletones, and Beantown Swing Orchestra!
