What a warm and tropical evening it was with all of you the other night! Going to Kowloon is much easier than flying halfway around the globe and extra fun with so many good friends. Thank you for making it a special evening, let’s hope it’s not the last there. Support the restaurant and hopefully they won’t close anytime soon!

GBVS Vintage Market at MusicCon Collectibles Extravaganza!

GBVS is partnering with Northeast ComicCon host Gary Sohmers for a large music/pop-culture event called the MusicCon Collectibles Extravaganza! GBVS will have a Vintage Market at this weekend-long show taking place at the Boxboro Hyatt Convention Center. It features celebrity guests, bands, movie/TV cars, and more. We’re psyched to be a part of this! Come dressed in your favorite rock and roll era outfit. Set sail for the Newport Jazz Age Weekend!

We have many great activities planned for you at Newport this year! Whether you are attending the Weekend or just signed up for the Saturday Day Ticket feel free to join us on Sunday the 18th as we take a cruise of the harbor on board the Adirondack II. This 80 ft, turn-of-the-century style schooner owned by Newport Classic Cruises will take us on a 90-minute “Mimosa Sail” at 11am. We will meet at the dock no later than 10:45am.

Movie Night at the GBVS HQ! Friday, May 19th

We welcome you join us for a vintage movie night at the GBVS headquarters of Groveland, Mass. Starting at 6:30pm we will be serving cocktails/drinks and snacks. Socialize at the J+J Cafe or peruse the vintage clothing for sale upstairs in the gallery. Then at sundown (8pm) we will take in the rare 1942 film, “Pittsburg” staring Marlene Dietrich, John Wayne, and Randolf Scott. This original 16mm projector film will be preceded by a newsreel or short.

The movie will be shown upstairs in the barn. Folding chairs provided or bring your own. To sign up send an email to gbvintagesociety@gmail.com. A $10-20 donation is suggested to cover costs. Directions will be sent via email. You MUST RSVP to attend and please follow parking instructions. See you Friday!

Casino Royale! April 1st at the Larz Anderson Museum

Don’t miss out on this spectacular night of espionage at the Larz Anderson Museum. Enjoy, dancing, gambling for prizes, vendors, hors d’oeuvres and a night to remember at this perfect venue. Being the “swinging sixties” we will have a swing dance lesson at the beginning of the night and live music from the Wolverine Jazz Band. Newport is Back! June 16-18th 2023

Newport is back!!! ….with one small change. We are now the “Newport Jazz Age Weekend“. Same great event, just a more appropriate name! This year we have a special lineup and a great theme. Celebrate Juneteenth weekend with us as we pay tribute to “The History and Influence of Black American Culture in Jazz and Swing”. All weekend we will have talks and dance classes lead by NYC instructor Odysseus Bailer!

Between classes on Saturday we will have our traditional lawn party picnic and activities. Then get ready for a really special Black-Tie Ball headlined by “Taryn Newborne and the Real Deal”!!! This band knows how to play for dancers and will be perfect for enjoying what you learned in class.

Weekend Registration is now open and Day Tickets will go on sale in February. Don’t miss out!

Winter Formal Italiano! — December 10th

Ciao! The Winter Formal returns to the 1950’s with strong Italian flavor. To spice things up this year we’re going with a full dinner format. GBVS is partnering with Maria’s Family Restaurant of Haverhill for an evening of delizioso entrées from the “old country”. Maria’s restaurant has the perfect vibe for the era and a great function hall for dinner and dancing. Musical accompaniment will be provided by talented pianist Benjamin Peabody. He’ll play some songs for dancing as well as your favorite holiday hits. Feel free to make requests. While your there take a picture by the grand piano and Christmas tree!

Aloha Party at the new GBVS HQ – Aug 20th!

Let’s say Aloha and welcome you to the new GBVS Headquarters! Your director, Jason Volk, has been spending every free minute for the the last 5 years constructing a period correct 1930’s barn/garage. It is time now to share it with you and celebrate with a swell vintage get together. Since the weather is warm GBVS is going to have a tribute to Hawaiian luau’s of the late 1940’s. The barn will be transformed into a sea-side shanty on the island of Oahu complete with decorations, tiki torches, and even our WWII Jeep straight over from Pearl Harbor. Guests will enjoy a full catered meal, a selection of period cocktails, plus live entertainment from the Rubin Brothers band! Further info can be found on the Facebook event page.
